The 2023 Dodge Hornet is marking a new beginning for the Dodge brand, with two all-new engine options that are engineered to prioritize fuel efficiency. The first option is the Hurricane, a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 that kicks out 265 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque and pairs with a 9-speed automatic transmission. This engine comes with the GT trim, while the R/T offers its own standard engine. This is a plug-in hybrid powertrain that features a 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a set of two electric motors, and a 15.5 kWh battery pack. The hybrid powertrain can deliver up to 285 horsepower, and 383 lb-ft of torque. The R/T has a six-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive, while the GT features standard rear-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive available as an option.
The Hornet may have many new features up its sleeve, but it also maintains many of the classic Dodge features you’d expect from a high-performance vehicle. First, let’s start with describing what new features this model has to offer. One notable feature is the R/T’s PowerShot button, which will deliver an instant boost of 25 horsepower with one simple press. With the help of PowerShot, the R/T can reach 60 miles per hour in 6.1 seconds. There are some features you’ll recognize from previous Dodge models as well, including a flat-bottomed steering wheel flanked by paddle shifters, an infotainment system complete with Performance Pages, and Brembo high-performance brakes. The GT also features a Sport driving mode for better handling.
