Redbird State Recreation Area
Get in your Jeep, travel to Linton, and find the Redbird State Recreation Area. This was once a private coal mine, and today, the multi-use park is owned and operated by the state of Indiana. The previously owned mine once covered 1,500 acres, and now you can take your four-wheel-drive vehicle over the 600 miles of trail you can find at the park. Some of these trails are perfect for those just starting to go off-road, while others require advanced off-road driving and specialized equipment. If you are bringing your Jeep to go off-roading, four trails are designed for larger vehicles, and the trails range from beginner to expert, so you know you will find something you like.
Haspin Acres
Haspin Acres has over 750 miles of trails to drive on, and you can spend days traveling all of these trails. First, drive 65 miles southeast of Indianapolis, heading toward Brookfield. It’s here where you will find the privately owned park. Drivers can blast down the tracks in style with their Jeep with all the dirt and mud that these tracks have to offer. Feel the incredible thrill of going drag racing on the 300-foot loose dirt race track. All vehicles of different sizes can run the track, but if you want to explore the property of Haspin Acres, you will find many easy trails to ride as you enjoy all the scenery.
Badland’s Off-Road Park
For drivers looking for a challenge, Badland’s Off-Road Park allows you to drive over sand dunes, rock-crawl over boulders, and challenging hills and through mud bogs and ford creeks. This unique park has a little something for people of all skill levels, and it’s a great place to take your family for a day of fun. When you go to this park, you will find 1,400 acres of multi-directional and diverse terrain to go over. Take any four-wheel-drive vehicle you want, and the SUV park is an excellent place to take your Jeep. Once you are ready to take a break, you will find some lunch and snacks at the Food Shack. If you need a place to rinse off some mud, dirt, and sand before heading home, then the park offers you 100% private single-person showers for a fee. You will find this park 80 miles from Indianapolis.
Lawrence County Recreational Park
Located in Needmore is Lawrence County Recreational Park. Here, you can travel on 400 miles of trails throughout the park, and the terrain varies from rolling hills to meadows and wooded forests. This is an excellent place for beginner off-roaders to hone their off-roading skills, so be sure to bring your young riders or those just learning how to go off-roading. Over 60 miles of terrain are challenging enough for new riders without being too intimidating. You can also find some other trails for more advanced off-road drivers. You can even get some lessons for first-time off-road drivers where they will get hands-on training and learn how to drive on trails safely from professionals that the park has employed.
Interlake State Recreation Area
At Interlake State Recreation Area, you will find around 100 miles of off-road trails designed for various skill levels. The property rests in an old coal mine, and the terrain is incredibly diverse, from rolling grasslands to strip pits, mud bogs, and quarries. There are also many areas for hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians, so avoid these areas if you are taking your Jeep. If you want to take a break from off-roading, you can try fishing in the area’s lakes. It’s truly a great place to spend with your family.
