Are you trying to get used to what it’s like to own a vehicle with electric capabilities? Whether the vehicle you have is all-electric, or PHEV, or maybe you’re still looking for your next ride, there are a few key things that we think you should be fully aware of. One of the most important tips we are going to be giving you is that of how you should be acting when you head over to a public charging station. All of us are used to what it’s like to head over to gas stations. We know the drill, we know the steps, and there isn’t much there that could surprise us. However, when it comes to charging stations, there is plenty that most of us have yet to experience. That kind of unknown can be formidable, but we are here to calm those storms before they even happen. All you have to do is read below as we give you some key etiquette tips at charging stations.
Follow the signs
While some aspects of a charging station will be obvious, such as plugging in your vehicle, seeing how much has been charged, and the places themselves, that isn’t all that you need to consider. Every charging station will vary slightly depending on what the parameters are there, and that’s why you need to be fully aware of any signs that you see. Some could even tell you a time limit for how long you can be there, and exceeding that is something that will make other people who are waiting incredibly unhappy. The more we follow the rules, the happier everyone will be as we share these public chargers with one another.
Don’t unplug anyone else
We all lead busy lives, and we all want to get to our destination as quickly as possible. With that being said, there is nothing more rude at a public charging station than unplugging someone else’s vehicle just because you need it. There is a caveat here, such as being given permission by the owner, but in almost every other circumstance, you need to leave other people’s vehicles alone. We know that you wouldn’t love it if someone unplugged your vehicle, and that kind of respect is a two-way street that should never be breached. The more we help and respect one another, the smoother that everything will go.
Never use as a parking space
Along the lines of what we have discussed before, another common problem with charging stations is how people use them. In many circumstances, these stations are located near a shopping plaza, which means they could be in prime real estate to a store you may want to shop at. Some people will use these spaces as parking, without even intending on charging their vehicles at all. No matter how quickly you are going to be in the store, you should never park in a charging station unless you are actually planning on charging. Anyone who may see otherwise will certainly not be happy, and you wouldn’t be, either.
