Tire care
One of the most important components of your vehicle during the winter is how your tires are functioning. An easy thing you can do is switch your tires to winter tires, or you can even choose all-season options. These tires enable you to get better traction, and to withstand everything that these cold months can throw at you. In the same vein, your tires are going to need to be monitored. Tire pressure is going to fluctuate, but you should always be checking to make sure that the air pressure is where it should be. Either release air or add more in, depending on where your PSI is sitting. Remember, your tires have to do a lot of heavy lifting, so this is a good time to get them changed if you have been thinking about it.
Battery check
Many people are fairly aware of the fact that in cooler months, your battery often suffers. Battery power tends to decrease with temperature drops, which means that it will take more power than ever to even get your vehicle running. If your battery is fairly old, consider replacing it with one that is above 600 CCA, which gives you optimal winter performance. If you don’t yet need to replace your battery, at least ensure that there is no rust around the connections, and you won’t run into any problems.
Windshield wipers
During winter, your windshield wipers are going to play a pivotal role. They make sure that you can properly see, no matter how bad the storm. We suggest that some people even install specific winter wipers, which comes with rubber that does not collect any ice. You will want to remove these once spring rolls around. Otherwise, another major thing you can do is check your washer fluid. Refill if necessary!
Winter safety kit
After you’ve performed all of the previous actions, or had our certified technicians here at Warsaw CDJR do it, you might also want to consider getting a winter safety kit together. This kit should include extra warm clothing, non-perishable food, a flashlight with batteries, a pack of matches, flares, an ice scraper, water, jumper cables, additional antifreeze, and a car tool kit.
